As usual, I have a name in the Pukes room a lot of the time, but lately I do try to keep my trap shut. Today it was just too much for me, though, when GuyWhoSmokes started raving about how he was going to run a Visual Basic 6.0 program on the Pogo site to get everyone's Pogo info. I hadda say something, I just hadda.
Put as simply as possible, NOBODY can do ANYTHING with Pogo membership information without first accessing the databases on Pogo’s secure (mega-routered/firewalled) internet server. I don’t care WHAT program they intend to use, THEY FIRST HAVE TO CRACK INTO THE POGO DATABASES. Our membership information is stored, under heavy security, in the data bases on the Pogo server and NOWHERE ELSE.
As I have said many many many times…only the world’s most accomplished hackers can get into secure online business sites (and very few of those at that), and Guy does not fit into that category. Guy knows just enough to get around in Windows and to navigate the internet and that’s it. He’s an internet and programming idiot.
Okay, now to show you a VERY much simplified block diagram of how Pogo is linked to the internet.
- You (pick a car) sign into Pogo, on the internet, through a secure firewall router
- Pogo locates your membership info in its data bases and activates the interactive stuff like privacy settings, badges, minis, gifts, etc. through the firewall router and pulls it up for you to use
- Only the internal Pogo programs that run on the Pogo servers can access ANYTHING on those servers. Nothing from the outside can get access.
Guy’s problem is that he goes online and googles stuff, snags snippets of info, then tries to act knowledgeable about it without knowing any of the basics. You just can’t pull it off without knowing the basic structure of your subject, in this case the internet and programming. The only thing Guy is good at is making himself look like a complete idiot.
Have a great weekend!
